Le Contesse
History
Founded in 1976 by Loris Bonotto and his wife Luigina, Le Contesse takes its name from the Venetian Tiepolo countesses, former landowners of the family’s ancestral vineyards. Loris, descended from generations of growers, planted the first Glera vines using the traditional Bellussera system—a canopy training method that remains a living symbol of the estate’s heritage.
Over time, the winery grew into a 200 ha estate, with around 70 ha now certified organic, guided by values of tradition, sustainability, and local authenticity.
The Vineyards
The estate’s 200 ha of vineyards lie within the UNESCO-recognised Conegliano–Valdobbiadene Prosecco Hills, where the historic Bellussera-trained vines align with steep terraces and open skies. From San Polo di Piave to Vazzola and Santa Lucia di Piave, the vineyards weave through a patchwork of ridges and valleys steeped in viticultural tradition.
Attentive to sun exposure, air flow, and biodiversity, the vineyards reflect a commitment to both quality and sustainability.
The Cellar
Le Contesse’s cellar journey began in the original winery located in San Polo di Piave, where tradition and technology have long worked side by side. Over the years, the winery introduced innovative methods such as continuous fermentation, using stainless steel autoclaves and horizontal rotary fermenters to preserve freshness and aromatics.
In 2021, the estate expanded with the opening of a new, architecturally striking facility in Valdobbiadene. Designed with sustainability and functionality in mind, the new cellar houses the latest generation of vinification systems while offering panoramic views of the surrounding vineyards. Together, the two sites reflect Le Contesse’s evolution—balancing its family heritage with a forward-looking approach to Prosecco production.
