Château L’Évangile

History

Château L’Évangile is a historic estate in Pomerol dating back to the 18th century. In 1990, the property was acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite, marking a new chapter that brought together established tradition and considered innovation.

Since its acquisition, the estate has evolved with a clear focus on vineyard renewal and long-term sustainability. It became the first property within the Lafite portfolio to adopt organic farming, reflecting a commitment to responsible viticulture and the preservation of its terroir.

The Vineyards

The vineyard of Château L’Évangile extends across approximately 22 hectares. The estate is rooted in a clay-gravel terroir that supports the cultivation of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

All vines have been replanted and carefully nurtured to adapt to the specific conditions of the estate. At the centre of the vineyard stands a Bordeaux stone house, where bees, horses, and vineyard workers form part of a closely observed agricultural ecosystem. The approach to vineyard management reflects careful attention to balance and respect for the land.

The Cellar

With an annual production of approximately 30,000 bottles, Château L’Évangile maintains a focused scale that allows for precision in both vineyard and cellar work. The winery is described as a place of thoughtful experimentation, while consistently honouring the purity of the fruit.

Beyond production, the estate also represents a place of hospitality, where wine is shared over meals in a setting that values generosity and refinement. The resulting style is defined as powerful yet refined, and generous yet precise.
