Tenuta Argentiera

History

Tenuta Argentiera is a distinguished wine estate located at the southern edge of Castagneto Carducci, within the heart of the Bolgheri DOC appellation. The estate takes its name from the historic silver mines that once defined the area, with origins dating back to the Etruscan era. This historical reference reflects a long-standing connection between the land and its natural resources.

The modern estate was founded in 1999, with a clear vision to express the unique character of Bolgheri through a balance of tradition, innovation, and deep respect for the territory. From its inception, Tenuta Argentiera has been shaped by a holistic approach to viticulture, one that values the natural rhythms of the land and seeks harmony between vineyard, climate, and human stewardship.

The Vineyards

Tenuta Argentiera’s vineyards are among the most distinctive in Bolgheri, both for their location and their elevation. Situated close to the Tyrrhenian Sea yet reaching some of the highest vineyard altitudes in the appellation, the estate enjoys expansive views across the coastline, the Tuscan Archipelago, and, on exceptionally clear days, as far as Corsica.

The estate comprises approximately 153 hectares in total, with around 85 hectares planted to vine. This unique positioning creates an exceptional meso-climate shaped by altitude, abundant sunlight, and constant maritime breezes. The proximity to the sea moderates temperatures, while elevation contributes to freshness and balance in the fruit, supporting long ripening cycles and aromatic precision. The vineyards are planted to a selection of varieties well suited to Bolgheri’s coastal conditions, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Syrah, and Vermentino. Each variety is cultivated with close attention to site expression, allowing the individual characteristics of the land to guide vineyard management decisions.

The Cellar

At Tenuta Argentiera, the cellar philosophy mirrors the estate’s broader commitment to balance and respect for nature. Winemaking is approached as a continuation of the work carried out in the vineyard, with careful handling designed to preserve the integrity and identity of the fruit.

The estate’s production reflects a thoughtful integration of modern techniques and traditional principles, ensuring precision while allowing the character of the vineyards and the Bolgheri terroir to remain central. With an annual production of approximately 500,000 bottles, the focus remains on consistency, quality, and faithful expression rather than excess.

Every stage of the winemaking process is guided by the estate’s holistic vision, resulting in wines that speak clearly of their coastal origins, elevated sites, and the distinctive conditions that define Tenuta Argentiera.
