Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso DOC (Organic) 2020

Type: Red Wine

Vintage:   2020

Country of Origin:  Italy

Region: Veneto

Grape Varieties:  70% Corvina, 20%  Corvinone, 10% Rondinella, Oseleta and Turchetta.

Appellation:  Valpolicella Classico Superiore DOC

Alcohol Content: 13.50% abv

Terroir: The vineyards are located at an elevation of 300-600m asl, with a South-South-West aspect. The soil is medium-textured limestone with good amounts of stones and rock. The vines range in age from 10 to 30 years.

Vinification: The wine is fermented partly in steel at a controlled temperature and partly in wood followed by “ripasso” (where the wine spends a period of about 10 days on Amarone lees).

Ageing: It ages in 25-hl Slavonian oak barrels and French wood barriques for about 2 years.

Tasting notes: An intense, deep ruby-red colour. Elegant on the nose with notes of ripe red fruit enriched with a touch of spice. Well-balanced and velvety with soft, mellow tannins that enhance its drinkability.

Temperature of service:  Served at 16-18°C

Food Pairing: This is a comforting, Sunday-lunch-style wine. It shines with meat filled agnolotti and oven-roasted meats with potatoes. Its sweet-spice profile also makes it a great companion for ethnic meat dishes like lamb tagine with vegetables or Nordic-style saddle of venison with berry reduction and mushrooms.
