Ottella
History
Ottella’s story begins in 1905 on the Veronese shore of Lake Garda, when the Montresor family first began interpreting the territory through wine. The estate was among the earliest to produce Lugana on that side of the lake and over four generations has remained in the hands of the same family. The current stewards, brothers Francesco and Michele Montresor, carry forward a philosophy of expressing the Garda-Veronese terroir while fostering sharing and connection between wine, art, nature and people. This continuity and vision are embedded in the winery project itself, conceived as a space where ideas grow together with those who work there and with visitors. Ottella’s flagship wines, particularly the Lugana Riserva Molceo, embody longevity and mineral depth, and that wine has been repeatedly celebrated for its quality. The estate’s evolution in hospitality and experiential design was recognized with the Global Best of Wine Tourism Award 2025 from the Great Wine Capitals network, underscoring Ottella’s commitment to creating a place where wine, art, nature and culture merge into a memorable experience.
The Vineyards
Ottella’s vineyards sit within the Lugana DOC, a clayey basin of glacial origin on the southern shore of Lake Garda, and form the foundation of the estate’s expression of place. The combination of the Turbiana grape (locally synonymous with Trebbiano di Lugana) and the mineral-rich, calcareous clay soils produces wines with energy, salinity, and evolving complexity; young wines show fresh sapidity while aged examples reveal expanded mineral and hydrocarbon notes.
The estate presents a modern twist on this historical territory, channeling its potential through careful viticultural stewardship and an unbroken bond between grape and soil that has been cultivated since 1905.
The Cellar
The winery is presented not merely as a production facility but as a cultural project where wine, art and beauty intersect. Cantina Ottella has been designed to be an immersive environment that reflects the estate’s values: visitors encounter an intentional fusion of wine and artistic sensibility, and the space itself supports sharing the passion behind the wines.
The hospitality offering—including guided tours and tastings—is structured to lead guests through this dialogue, reinforcing the connection between place and experience. The estate’s commitment to blending aesthetics with winemaking and visitor engagement underpins its recognition in wine tourism
